I am a disabled athlete born with Spina Bifida, a congential birth defect resulting in an incomplete closure of the spine. In my case it left me partially paralyzed from the waist down. In spite of this disability I have been very active in sports with my first exposure through swimming as a child.
As an adult my athletic abilities have taken me to heights I only dreamed of when I was younger. First as a wheelchair racer traveling the world competing, then as a swimmer competing in 1992 Paralympic Games in Barcelona, Spain and the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia, earning a total of 4 medals. Gold (world record), Silver, and 2 Bronze Medals.
